Gezi - Excerpt

How was she discovered? He touched Rao on the shoulder, careful to avoid contact with his wings. The Seraphim’s heavy sigh was felt deep in his bones. Angling his head, Gezi found himself locked by the Seraphim’s light blue gaze. She was in that frame there. Arms removed, throat slashed, wings and legs extended to the corners. Gezi tried to shut his mind on that vision but couldn’t quite succeed. He adjusted his stance and stared over the pooled blood there. There was tape across the top of the steps, and he knew the humans would be back to continue their investigation. Right now, one stood guard at the door. All of them were concealed from his sight. Who was with her? The prints in the blood, is this the one who mutilated and killed her? The humans believe this to be true, Zelus added as he stepped closer. No human could kill one of us. We agree. She had shed a diamond tear. That wouldn’t have happened had the human been the one inflicting the pain on her. Gezi glanced back down to the now securely wrapped form of Hacer. Diamond tears were not something his kind did easily. Once in a while they came across those believed to have the potential to be more, that their goodness and light superseded everything about them, even if the humans themselves were unaware. While they were unable to bestow upon them the life of their kind, a diamond tear, would allow others of Gezi’s kind to know this human was something unique and special. Personally, he wasn’t aware of all that happened once this had been done. I have not heard of this done in centuries. For Hacer to have done this… Where is the human? Being held in their jail. We cannot leave him there. All conversation stopped between those gathered and they all looked at him for his outburst. Gezi shook his head, refusing to back down. I have felt off all day, unable to relax, this, I must go to this human. Zelus and Elexus shared a look. Then go. We were going to head there later but if this is so strong of a call for you, go. Zelus’ tone was deep and almost comforting, even with his sharp edge. Without needing to be told once more, he did just that. Took to the sky once more and searched for the glow that would be around this human. The police station wasn’t difficult to find and making sure to remain invisible to human eyes, he landed and walked through the doors before positioning himself right outside the bars of the cell the human was in. He was alone in the cell, but there were others there, their loud raucous behavior not at all getting to the human who sat with his feet and legs pulled up on the bench with him. Gezi stepped through the bars when he recognized the blood on his hands. Human. The black haired head lifted and Gezi’s heart nearly stopped from the impact the dark brown eyes. Pain overflowed his gaze and Gezi moved toward the human before it even registered to him what he was doing. What did she do to me? I didn’t mean for her to die. I tried to save her. Gezi paused directly before the man and stared down at him. The blood was more than just on his hands, also his arms, jacket, shirt, jeans, and shoes. Look at me, human. Again, those eyes met his and Gezi sucked a harsh breath. All of the air had been taken from his lungs and it was a struggle to make that one happen. Did you touch her tear? “Yes, I wiped the tear from her face. I just wanted to stop the bleeding.” Gezi noticed the others around them watching with a mixture of concern and derision. He dropped his power that kept him from their sight and watched them all jump back. You are coming with me. Gezi flared his blood red wings, well aware of the sight it presented when he did. Take my hand. The first touch nearly took him to his knees, but he hid them both and took the human out of the prison. He didn’t think about it, just took him to where he felt safest on earth.
